Terms of Service
Last updated: July 3, 2026
By using CourseChat (“the Service”), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
What CourseChat is
CourseChat is a platform that lets educators, course creators, and tutoring businesses (“Providers”) turn their own course material into a branded AI tutor for their students (“Students”). Providers upload content, customize branding, and optionally charge Students a monthly subscription. Students interact with the AI tutor to study that Provider's material.
These terms apply to both Providers and Students. Where a section applies to only one of them, it says so.
Accounts
You can sign up with an email and password or with Google. You're responsible for your account and everything that happens under it. Don't share your login with others. Student accounts are linked to a single Provider; a Student's access to the tutor is controlled by that Provider.
Provider content
Providers keep full ownership of the materials they upload. By uploading, a Provider grants CourseChat a limited license to store, process, index, and display that content — solely to operate the Service for the Provider and their enrolled Students. We do not publish Provider content, share it across accounts, or use it to train AI models.
Providers represent that they own or have the rights to distribute any material they upload, and that making it available to their Students does not infringe anyone else's rights. Providers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their content, including any corrections or instructions they configure for the tutor.
Fees and payments
Platform subscription (Providers): CourseChat charges Providers a monthly platform fee, currently US$29/month, billed through Stripe. Prices may change with reasonable notice; changes take effect at your next billing cycle.
Student subscriptions and revenue share:Providers may charge their Students a monthly price of their choosing (minimum US$10/month). Student payments are processed by Stripe and paid directly to the Provider's connected Stripe account. CourseChat retains a 10% platform fee on each Student payment, deducted automatically at the time of the charge. Stripe's own processing fees are borne by the Provider.
Refunds:The subscription relationship for tutor access is between the Student and their Provider. Refund requests for Student subscriptions should be directed to the Provider; Providers can issue refunds through Stripe. Platform fees on refunded charges are returned per Stripe's application-fee refund rules. The Provider's $29/month platform fee is non-refundable for partial months.
Disputes and chargebacks:Student payments are processed on the Provider's own Stripe account, which makes the Provider the merchant of record for those charges. Providers are responsible for handling refund requests, responding to disputes and chargebacks on Student payments, and paying any resulting fees. CourseChat does not process refunds for Student subscriptions and does not mediate billing disputes between Providers and Students.
Taxes: Providers are responsible for any taxes that apply to what they charge their Students.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content you don't have the rights to distribute, or use the Service to infringe anyone's intellectual property
- Circumvent the platform fee — for example, by configuring a nominal price on CourseChat while collecting the real subscription payment elsewhere for the same access
- Attempt to access another account's or Provider's data
- Share account access, or resell access to the Service itself
- Abuse the Service by automating requests, scraping, or overloading the system
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, or to generate content that is harmful or deceptive
AI-generated content
Tutor responses, quizzes, and other study aids are generated by artificial intelligence grounded in the Provider's uploaded materials. AI output may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions — it is a study aid, not professional advice, and not a substitute for the Provider's own instruction. Providers can review and correct tutor behavior through the corrections feature, but CourseChat does not guarantee the accuracy of any AI-generated content, and neither Providers nor Students should rely on it without verification.
Third-party services
The Service is built on third-party infrastructure, including AI model providers (for chat and content processing), Stripe (payments), and hosting and email providers. Content is processed through these providers' APIs under terms that prohibit using your content to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Availability
CourseChat is provided as-is. We don't guarantee that the Service will be available at all times or error-free, and we may update, change, or discontinue features at any time. We'll use reasonable efforts to give Providers notice of changes that materially affect their Students.
Termination
You can stop using CourseChat at any time; Providers can cancel their subscription from the billing portal. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. If a Provider's account is closed, their Students' access to that tutor ends and active Student subscriptions are cancelled. You can request deletion of your account and data by contacting us.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CourseChat and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service — including lost revenue, lost content, disputes between Providers and Students, or reliance on inaccurate AI-generated content. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid to CourseChat in the three months before the claim arose.
Copyright claims
If you are a content owner and believe material on CourseChat infringes your rights, see our Copyright Policy and contact us at the email below. We review and respond to legitimate requests promptly.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes to fees or the revenue share will be communicated to Providers with reasonable notice.
